Nouryant publishes its 2023 Sustainability Report

Nouryon has released its fifth annual sustainability report with the theme “Essential Solutions, Sustainable Future”. The report highlights Nouryon’s safety and environmental performance, as well as its progress in providing sustainable solutions to its customers, outlining the significant progress it has made during the year in line with the company’s mission to work together for a sustainable future of essential solutions.

Nouryon’s Sustainability Highlights 2023:

● Outstanding safety performance: From 2019 to 2023, the company saw a 78% reduction in process safety incidents, a 3% reduction in recordable injury events (OIR) for employees, temporary workers, and contractors, and a top quarter of the industry’s personnel safety performance1.

● Expanded portfolio of sustainable solutions: 74% of the company’s product R&D projects2 are focused on solutions with sustainability benefits, and 32% of sales in 2023 came from eco-premium solutions3. The main sustainable solutions to be launched in 2023 include a special tertiary amine-type biocide Triameen® Y12D, Kromasil® 100A diC4 preparative purified stationary phase, Berol® Nexxt surfactant, and Dissolvine® GL Premium chelating agent. In addition, Nouryon’s green chloroacetic acid (MCA) production at its Delfzijl site in the Netherlands has been awarded the international sustainability and carbon certification standard ISCC PLUS.

● Improved environmental performance through reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and transition to renewable energy: Between 2019 and 2023, the company’s combined absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 14%. In 2023, 54% of the company’s total electricity consumption came from renewable and low-carbon energy sources, compared to 50% in 2022.

● Earning CDP A- Global Climate Leadership Score and EcoVadis Gold Rating: Nouryon received CDP Global Climate Leadership A- Score in recognition of the company’s current progress in implementing best practices in sustainability goals, value chain engagement, and opportunity disclosure. Nouryon has also received an EcoVadis Gold rating, placing it in the top 5% of companies participating in the EcoVadis Global Rating.

● Nouryon assessed 66% of supplier spend using the EcoVadis platform: a 6% increase compared to the previous year. The company also continues to assess its suppliers’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) risks, with 90% of supplier spend assessed using the EcoVadis Risk IQ tool. In addition, Nouryant is a member of the Together for Sustainability (TfS) Alliance, a global initiative of 53 chemical companies working to improve sustainability practices across the chemical industry.
